Duration in Days, Weeks, Months, and Years
Weeks are the only exact conversion here: divide total days by 7, and the remainder is the leftover days — 100 days is 14 weeks and 2 days. Months are not a fixed number of days (they run 28 to 31), and years are 365 or 366 days, so longer conversions always depend on the actual calendar span between your two dates.
For quick mental estimates, 1 month ≈ 30.44 days (365.25 ÷ 12), but never use that rounding where precision matters — a lease or loan computed with rounded months will drift away from calendar truth. Finance solves this with the 30/360 convention, which treats every month as 30 days and every year as 360 for easy interest math — deliberately diverging from real calendar time. Does the End Date Count?
By default this calculator reports the calendar difference, so the end date itself is not counted: March 1 to March 2 is 1 day. If you need an inclusive count — where both the first and last day count, as in some rental agreements and project schedules — simply add 1 day to the total.
Inclusive counting appears more often than you'd expect. A hotel stay from the 1st to the 3rd is 2 nights but 3 calendar dates, and a task that starts and ends on the same Monday is "1 day of work" exclusively but "2 days on site" inclusively. Whichever convention you use, state it explicitly — most duration disputes come from two people counting the same span differently.
